From the first published, Memoir, edition. The block from which this was printed is now preserved in the British Museum.
In an article entitled ‘Notes on Edward Calvert’ published in the Athenaeum in 1883, George Richmond wrote, ‘Mr Calvert lived at 17, Russell Street…whence several of his woodcuts and plates are dated, prominently ‘Ploughman ploughing the Last Furrow’, a work of great beauty in the print’.
