This is the first work to be published by Constable himself and is the earliest mezzotint of any of his works. It was not until a decade after, that Constable began to consider having mezzotints made of his work, initially by S.W Reynolds and later, in 1829 by David Lucas.
This work is extremely scarce, the only other open letter proof impression is in the British Museum and even the closed letter examples are very rare to the market.
