Signed in pencil 'F.L. Griggs' lower right and inscribed ….22.III (The best state of the plate One of 40 impressions) bottom left. Titled, in pencil, on verso in the artist’s hand. From the edition of 40 in this the third state. Printed on laid paper.
The subject is a deserted and decaying moated grange. This was the print which Harold Wright recorded was returned by a purchaser saying that it had been sold under false pretences; the plate did not represent a real building. Griggs was apparently ‘incensed and amused.’
