House, Gordon (1932-2004), 'A Ladder Box', Lithograph, 1970

'A Ladder Box', Lithograph, 1970

Edition: 75

This print is from a series of six lithographs inspired by House’s ‘years of working with letterpress compositors and printers. The fascination of the printing world with its wealth of materials seen and handled by craftsmen of a trade and process, developed from the birth of the printing industry and which has now given way to ever changing means by modern techniques evolved on the threshold of the silicon chip revolution. Old equipment and type catalogues from those earlier commercial printing trades survive with names and images to remind one of the language associated with the published and printed word suggesting also new codes to follow’.
