Printed from one copper plate, steel faced after the 4th state.

Trimmed to the image and mounted on the 'Scarab, Grecian Key and Fly Pattern Mount’.(no.167).

'The plate was printed three times to produce the desired effect. The background was printed twice in two tones to produce umber. Then, the colours of flowers, stems and vase were printed à la poupée.

Among the colour prints first exhibited in 1899, this is the only one which can be dated precisely. One proof in a private collection is dated "1st proof Th.R" and "To my darling daughter. Th. Roussel. April 21st, 1897" - Jeanne's seventeenth birthday'. (Hausberg, M. 'The Prints of Theodore Roussel', Bronxville, New York, 1991. P.149)

A proof of the final state was exhibited as No 18. at the Goupil Gallery, the Strand, 1899.
