'Comedy Pattern Frame', Etching, 1907-1908


Etched design, before trimming and application to the wooden frame.

A good impression on laid Van Gelder. One of only two known proofs in this state. This example with pencil touching on the bottom medallion.

As with ‘Phaeton Pattern Frame’ (H.166), the frame was exhibited, for the first time, at the end of 1908. Both were used for several subjects. Roussel designed six frames in all - two for colour prints and four in monochrome.
