Roussel, Theodore (1847-1926), 'Pierrot en Pied, Portrait of Lady A.C, Etching, 1888

'Pierrot en Pied, Portrait of Lady A.C, Etching, 1888

Trimmed to the platemark by the artist.

One of several impressions printed in blue-green ink.

This full length portrait of Lady Archibald Campbell in costume is related to two other prints by Roussel (No.9 and No.10) and a large pastel entitled 'Ma Fonction est d'etre Blanc'. Its scale and the manipulation of ink or plate tone - on the unetched background in many impressions recall Whistler's drypoint portraits and his printing technique of the 1880s.
