Roussel, Theodore (1847-1926), 'The Saw Mill, Putney', Etching, 1888-1889

'The Saw Mill, Putney', Etching, 1888-1889

Printed on laid paper. Signed in a tab bottom centre and annotated on the reverse 'Given to Hetty, May 9th 1896'. Proof outside of the edition of 30. Trimmed to the plate by the artist

Touched in pencil by the artist reinforcing the two arched windows in the centre of the motif.

This subject is an example of Roussel's interest in the industrial character of the south bank of the Thames. It is worthy of note as his first departure in townscape etchings from Chelsea and Battersea.
