Heavily touched proof with instructions by Turner, ‘ I must beg of you to be particular in filling in the lines in the Corn Sheaves. Do not cross them like (Here a sketch) but (another sketch), leaving bright bits, and if you can cut into the( sketch of ear of corn) ends without reducing the Light (here another ear) for a few…so much the better.)

Copper engraving by E, Goodall (1795-1870). Other works engraved by Goodall, after Turner, include Picturesque Views of England and Wales , Samuel Rogers’Italy and Campbell’s Poetical Works.

Rawlinson claims that the two dons, seen on the right of the composition, had followed Turner in order to watch him painting.
